IT'S A GIRL!

Little Camryn Mary Rylaarsdam joined us today (Oct. 26) at 8:18 am via c-section with absolutely no problems.  She measured 7 pounds, 14 ounces, and 19 1/2 inches and has quite a set of lungs on her.  Both mom and baby are doing very well, and are happy to have visitors anytime. Erin is even getting out of bed already tonight.  Big brother Jake is about as proud as any 2 year old would be (i.e. doesn't even notice), but he'll catch on soon enough.  I'm sure Erin will write more as soon as she gets home, which should be Sunday night/ Monday morning.

Guess what...I was going to try to write this in pink...but for some reason it's not working!

Anyways, at our ultrasound this morning the doctor said that he was 80% sure that we are having a girl.  She was sitting with her legs and feet hiding everything and it was tough to see, so we're not going to bet the farm on it but we'll plan for a little sister for Jake!  And have a backup plan for a boy just in case it's a brother!  The good news for me is that it's healthy and there is only one!

Hi Everyone~

I'm attempting my first entry on to this site...so if it looks dumb, you'll just have to get over it!

Today Jake got tubes put in his ears and his adenoids taken out.  We had to be at the hospital at 6:30am...toooooo early.  They asked all kinds of questions and gave him some pretty ugly jammies, and then they explained the whole process to me.

Then the nurse came in and gave him what they called "happy juice" which just made him really loopy so that the rest of the anesthesia would go fine.  It's really weird seeing a toddler acting drunk.  After that they took him for about an hour for the surgery, meanwhile, I sat there and cried.  Everything went smoothly, they said that behind his eardrums was lots of think gunky fluid which should help him out lots, sorry if you're eating.

They brought him back to me and I held him for about another 2 hours and he was just sleepy...we went home and as the drugs from surgery wore off we went through the loopy stage again...he hasn't drooled that much since his first teeth came in.

About 2:00 this afternoon he was even more back to normal, but tired, he fell asleep in the laundry basket...I have pictures but I'll have Chris load them on here...I can only do this one step at a time.

All is well, we're staying home one more day tomorrow and then it's back to the swing of things on Wednesday!

Have a great day everyone!

We have learned two things on our trip to California:

1- 17 month old children were never designed for plane rides lasting more than 1 hour;

2- Wait until your mother is not driving on LA freeways before telling her you're pregnant.

Actually Jake did very well on the flight.  For being so active, he never got fussy until we landed at the end of a five hour flight from Cleveland to LA.  He didn't take a nap that day, and didn't sleep at all on the plane, so when he decided he wanted off, and we couldn't do it, there were a few disgruntled business travelers around us (I think we got caught in the middle of a herd of doctors returning from a conference).  We were just glad it was the end of the trip.

And yes, Jake's going to have a younger sibling.  Erin is due at the end of October, the same week as Jake's 2nd birthday.  I'm sure she'll have more to say about that, but us boys are all about basic facts.

Yesterday mom had a garage sale and pulled in about $1300.  Not bad for one day's work and thirty years of collecting.  Today's garage sale isn't going bad either, but we will be very happy when it's all over.

Tonight Erin and I are catching one last Dodger game against the Angels, and Jake is going with his Grandma to Disneyland.  She has annual passes and goes about twice a week, and thought he might like it.  Ummmm.... yeah!  So we're all ready for some fun.  Well, I had better get back out and keep Jake out of the way.
